Opposing NYCC's waste management plan

This is a list of the main ways you can get involved in opposing the plan:

1. Lobby your elected representatives and
1. NYCC officers

  • Lobby your county councillor to call for a moratorium and when the opportunity arises in the near future to vote it down.

  • Lobby you district councillor. Get him or her to put pressure also on your county councillor.

  • Lobby your local MP to use their influence in parliament to get the deal stopped.

  • Write to Richard Flinton, Chief Executive: richard.flinton@northyorks.gov.uk
NYCC Council, County Hall, Northallerton, North Yorkshire, DL7 8AD

The easiest way to do this is to go to the WriteToThem website and follow the instructions. All you need is your post code and the system finds your representatives. Use the sample letter if you like.

2. Sign the petition

www.gopetition.co.uk/petitions/dont-incinerate-north-yorkshire.html.

Don't forget to click Tell and forward the petition link to your friends across North Yorkshire.

3. Call or email NYCC and CYC

Do it today and say or write what you think.

4. Tell your friends across the county

It is important to contact and educate your friends across the county so that they, in turn, can lobby their local county councillors. Don't forget, they are unlikely to understand the dire financial implications for us all as well as you do.

5. Attend council meetings

For a list of meetings see the Lobbying Council Meetings on the NYWAG website. When attending meetings and protests, please be orderley and do no obstruct or be offensive to elected officials going about their business.

6. Join NYWAG (North Yorkshire Waste Action Group)

NYWAG is actively lobbying officials and is getting the message out to all parts of NY using the media and other means. The group needs your help to put up posters and banners, and to spread the word across the county.

If you want to take a more active role, email Steve Wright.

Countering the 'spin'

AWRP and NYCC PR material looks good, but does it provide the answers you need?

In Response to AWRP spin and Questions to ask at the exhibition, we pose the questions that county councillors and members of the public, across North Yorkshire, should be putting to NYCC.
